Aluminum, the 13th element in the periodic table, is also a transition metal. Aluminum is the most abundant metallic element in the Earth’s crust, second only to oxygen and silicon, and the second most used metal in the world after iron, but it wasn’t until the 19th century that humans mastered the technology to separate and produce pure aluminum. Almost everyone in the world has at one time or another used products containing aluminium.

Aluminum is widely used in commercial products due to its ideal physical properties such as abundance, heat capacity, and tensile strength. It is also infinitely recyclable and part of the world’s infrastructure. According to statistics, there are 113 aluminum-related industries among the 124 existing industries in China. “Aluminum instead of steel, aluminum instead of wood, aluminum instead of copper, aluminum instead of plastic”, has gained broad social consensus.

The five main applications of aluminum

1. Cable

Aluminum is ideal for distribution networks, both overhead and local, and is one of the most common materials for electrical applications because of its better conductivity and weight ratio than copper. At present, all the bare overhead conductors in our country are made of aluminum and its alloys.

In addition, aluminum conducts slightly more than half as well as copper, but weighs only 30 percent as much, while bare aluminum wires with similar resistors weigh only half as much. Aluminum is also cheaper than copper, which makes it more cost effective.

2. Tall buildings

Aluminum is easy to process, durable, corrosion resistant, and lighter than steel. One of its first applications was in architecture. This is because aluminum has a superior weight-to-strength ratio and is a core value for high-rise buildings and skyscrapers.

You know, if a skyscraper were made of steel, it would weigh a lot more, which would require a deeper foundation, which would add to the cost of construction.

3. Window frames

Aluminum frames are durable and cost effective, making them the preferred choice for homes and offices. It’s also very light and shock-resistant, which is useful in places with high winds and strong storms.

Using aluminum for window frames is generally cheaper and cheaper to maintain than wood, and is more resistant to scratching, cracking, and damage. However, a major disadvantage of using aluminum frames is that they do not offer the same energy savings as wood and do not provide the same level of insulation.

4. Consumer electronics

Smartphones, tablets, laptops, flat-panel televisions, computer monitors and other electronic products are increasingly made of aluminum. Aluminum is both beautiful and practical, looking both sophisticated and reliable. This meets the basic needs of electronic products.

Electronics manufacturers have recently been using aluminum instead of steel and plastic. It is used primarily to cool CPU and graphics processing unit, and aluminum’s excellent thermal conductivity makes it an ideal material for this field. Many manufacturers in the production of electronic products, are considering the use of aluminum alloy instead of the original plastic shell, because aluminum alloy material looks more high-end than plastic shell, but also more durable and strong. Aluminum is stronger and more reliable than plastic, but lighter than steel, and its inherent ability to absorb and dissipate heat makes it a favorite among such electronics makers.

5. Household and industrial appliances

Aluminum is used to make precision tubes for refrigerators and air conditioners -- and not just for this part, of course.

Many household washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and other appliances are also designed with aluminum frames. The excellent use of aluminium is in Refrigerating and refrigerating appliances, which are characterised by cooling promotion and efficient refrigeration. Without the excellent thermal conductivity of aluminum, modern refrigerators would not be able to achieve such good cooling effect.

Because of its abundant reserves and excellent properties, aluminum is widely used in modern industry and daily life, whether in pots and pans, household appliances, infrastructure construction, aerospace, transportation, many industries have benefited from it and are gaining wider recognition.
